How to prepare for UPSC and crack it in the first attempt::

Civil Services has become a hot career choice for Indian youth. Every year some 15 lakh aspirants fill up the CSE form out of which only 1000 make it to the merit list. It becomes clear here itself that the selection ratio is not very impressive when we compare it with the total registrations.  Why is it so important to clear the exam in the first attempt?
